To love

Lieben heißt: von ganzem Herzen ja sagen
zu einem anderen Menschen,
ein Ja, so groß, dass auch ein paar kleinere Neins darin Platz finden,
so mutig, dass auch die Angst ihm nichts anhaben kann,
so verständnisvoll, dass selbst das Unverständliche darin Platz findet,
so feierlich, dass sogar das Alltägliche ein kleines Fest wird,
so klar, dass selbst der Zweifel ihm nicht schaden kann,
so vertraut, dass auch Fremdes und Neues darin Einlass finden können.


To love means to say yes,
from the bottom of your heart,
to the one you love,
a yes,
so great that even a few smaller noes find place in it,
so brave, that the fear can not harm it,
so understanding, that even the incomprehensible has room in it,
so solemn, that even the everyday becomes a celebration,
so clear that even doubts cannot hurt it
so familiar, that even strange an new things find a place in it.
